The steel scrap recycling industry is an integral part of our lives, as it provides very important urban resources generated from demolished structures, end-of-life vehicles, electrical appliances and so on. Steel scrap is mainly recycled with an electric arc furnace, but is recently also recycled at integrated steelmakers for the purpose of green house gas reduction.
Worldwide demand for steel scrap is approximately 500 million tons a year, and the total generation in Japan is approximately 50 million tons a year.
